Cultural Fishing Class Action
The Cultural Fishing Class Action has been commenced in the Federal Court of Australia on behalf of all the South Coast Aboriginal Peoples of New South Wales (Class Members) alleging that the State of New South Wales, through the conduct and compliance actions of its Fisheries officers, has unlawfully interfered with and restricted the practice of traditional fishing rights and customs of Class Members over the period 1 January 1994 to 27 June 2023 (the Claim). The Claim alleges that this conduct has amounted to breaches of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Commonwealth) and caused significant harm and losses to Class Members.
The Claim is being conducted by JGA Saddler Lawyers.
